§1 · The clock
Why the date matters
The fund runs in rounds, and money gets reserved first-come, first-served as applications come in — so a round can close well before its printed deadline.

Those are ceilings, not quotes. What you'd actually qualify for depends on the size of the system your roof supports — which is the number the call is for.

§3 · The one rule
Ownership decides the whole thing

Owning it does not mean paying cash for it. A financed system is still a system you own, so it still qualifies. A lease or a PPA is what disqualifies you — not a loan. That single distinction is what most of this market blurs, and it's worth asking every company you talk to.
§4 · How the money moves
Nobody hands you a check
- The application goes in before anything is installed. Not after. Get that order wrong and the grant is gone.
- The grant comes off your contract. The installer discounts the price by the approved amount, so you're never fronting it and waiting.
- Commerce RI repays the installer once the system is finished and inspected.
If anyone describes this as a rebate check showing up in your mailbox, they haven't read the program.
Straight answer: this one isn't for you.
The Renewable Energy Fund is direct-ownership only. There's no version of it that works on a rental, and anyone telling you otherwise is selling you something. Keep your phone number.
Honestly? The math probably doesn't work.
Under about $100 a month, a system rarely pays for itself even with the grant. We'd rather tell you that here than book you and tell you on the phone.
